Heat Solutions for Savings

We are lucky to live in an age dominated by technology and innovation. Smart technology, transport efficiency and useful applications are everywhere and these applications enable us to live our lives more efficiently, more economically and more easily. We have compiled a few important points that you can do to be more environmentally friendly and economical at home.

  • Use Room Thermostat

When you're away from home, let your combi boiler adjust the temperature from your digital room thermostat. Lowering the temperature by just 3 to 5 degrees will lower your monthly electricity bill and use less energy. If you set lower your room thermostat by 10 to 15 degrees during the working day, you can save between 5% and 15% each year.

  • Close all windows and shutters if applicable

Windows, doors and attics let cold air in and draw heated air out. It is important to seal leaks to keep the heat in. You can start by checking the air insulation around your windows and doors.

Then you can check for any leaks through which heated air can escape into an unfinished attic space. Cuts made in the drywall to install lighting fixtures and ceiling fans also create easy escape routes. You can seal openings using silicone or latex caulk. By sealing air leaks, you can save about 30% of energy.

  • Insulation

Insulation is perhaps the most important component of keeping a home warm in winter and cool in summer. To save money, you can make sure there is an appropriate level of insulation in the attic and between the internal walls. Insulation has an R-value, measured by the amount of heat allowed to pass through it. The higher the value, the less likely heat is to escape, resulting in lower gas and electricity bills. If the space is not properly insulated, heat rises and escapes easily through the attic.

By preventing heat losses, you can save up to 30% on your electricity and natural gas bill.

  • Air Vents or Radiators

Vents and radiators are designed to be functional. To make them look more aesthetically pleasing, vents or radiators are covered by furniture or window coverings. Such practices block the airflow of these products, resulting in more energy being wasted.

It is best to use vents and radiators as they are and allow the airflow to move freely throughout the space. If you want to make air vents or radiators more aesthetically pleasing without obstructing airflow, you can paint them the same colour as the wall or floor.

Window Treatments

Curtains add elegance to a space, but they do much more than just add aesthetics to a space. Curtains that fully close windows, especially those made of a wool-cotton blend, help insulate a room from cold air leaking through the windows. You can prevent heat from dissipating by closing windows and curtains to provide more insulation and save heat.
